I just wasn't sure if I wanted the Grizzly spiral cutter head or the Byrd. Talking to the Tech Support guy at Griz, it sounds like a mildy complicated task to change out the cutter head to install the Byrd one, so I'm opting for buying the G0453Z with the Grizzly cutterhead pre-installed. I'll file a review once I've got it up and running. Kevin H.
I had a 12" Powermatic planer, 1.5 hp, from the 60s for 30 years-back when they were green. I am looking for a 15 inch planer and after some reading I am interested in the grizzly 1021x2 and the 0453z. The x is built in a Taiwanese IOS 9001 factory and the z is built in China. Looks like the x has a byrd cuter head and the z has a grizzly cuter head. The z has a built in mobil base. The x is $100 more. I would like more imformation and advice. thank you Allan
I'm looking at the Jet JWP-15HH helical head planer and the Grizzly G0453Z-15" 3 HP 240V Planer with Spiral Cutterhead. The Jet is almost $1k more. ... So far so good. Super quite. Will post a full review when I have used it a bit. Scary part about it is there are 108 cutter blades @ $60/10 blades. Hope I don't have to replace them soon. Save Share
